Brief:
The author explains that the Israeli occupation is coming to an ordinary end. Both Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA) are the losers in the previous war on the Gaza Strip. On the one hand, Israel is fragmented more than ever before after four inconclusive elections, and Israel’s internal security service has even warned about potential political assassination from the rising incitement. On the other hand, there is a “collapse” in the political leadership in Ramallah. Even the Fatah movement is not happy about how Mahmoud Abbas deals with the aggression on Gaza and Jerusalem. More than 3000 leading Palestinian academics have signed onto a letter calling on Abbas to stand down. They argued that Abbas was the most significant absentee during the Israeli attack on Gaza and Sheikh Jarrah. The author elaborates that there is a new Palestinian generation to which Abbas has nothing to say. Thus, Abbas must go to preserve Fatah’s legacy as an emancipation movement. After three decades of recognition of Israel, nothing has been achieved for Palestinians except more disintegration to them and their institutions.
