Brief:

Author Zachary Karabell, an economic and political trends analyst, argues that US-Chinese relations, despite current difficulty, will continue for the coming years. He compares it to the relationship that existed between the Soviet Union and the United States in the past (the Cold War), but despite this similarity there are fundamental differences that cannot be ignored—as there was a “point of no return” regarding US-Soviet relations in that period. The writer says that even with the technological competition between the United States and China, the trade and economic relations between the two countries remains very large. The relationship between the United States and China developed in the context of extraordinary economic interdependence despite the trade turmoil that has happened after Trump took power. The author quotes economist Moritz Schularick who used the term  “Chimerica” to describe this trade relationship, which the author himself calls an economic “superfusion.” Therefore, the author advises both the United States and China to overcome these tensions, which would cause a great deal of damage to both nations’ trade and economies.
