Brief:
This report highlights the geographical, historical, demographic, socio-cultural, socioeconomic, and political structure of Afghanistan. It provides an abstract overview of the social, political, and economic aspects of the country. The author draws attention to the economic opportunities and related security challenges such as the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India Pipeline (TAPI), Central Asia-South Asia Power Project (CASA-1000), and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Overall, a particular emphasis has been drawn upon the foreign policy and its geopolitical environment. Yet, the Afghan peace process (from February 2009 to September 2020) and its relationship with Pakistan has been put forward from the Pakistani perspective and does not necessarily reflect upon the geopolitical realities. To conclude, the policy of non-alignment in Afghanistan’s foreign policy along with Pakistan’s role for stability in this country are addressed.
