The silence on the brutal crackdown in Egypt by Abdel Fattah el-\u00a0Sisi,\u00a0as well as the brutal assassination of journalist\u00a0Jemal\u00a0Khashoggi\u00a0by MBS are in effect demoting democracies.\u00a0In this era of \u201cGlobal Democratic Recession\u201d the United States needs to revive the political strategies at home as well as in the outside world through \u201cconstructive vigilance\u201d by keeping their doors open for others and countering the malign authoritarian campaigns of disinformation, societal penetration, and ideological warfare. He argues that such tactics would be critical for the defense of democracy.
