The author proposes that although the situation\u00a0as a whole\u00a0is even worse now,\u00a0there is something\u00a0that has\u00a0changed\u00a0in the Arab world,\u00a0which is the \u201cAuthoritarian Bargain\u201d\u00a0that\u00a0Arab political regimes have rested on for many decades of their rule. This \u201cAuthoritarian Bargain\u201d refers to the state\u2019s provision of \u201cjobs, security and services\u201d in exchange for \u201cpolitical loyalty.\u201d\u00a0The author conducted a comparison between the\u00a0political and economic situations\u00a0before and after the\u00a0Arab\u00a0Spring based on providing some statistical figures from different Arab countries. She explained that before the\u00a0uprisings\u00a0a liberal economy was not followed by a liberal political sphere. It was only used by the Arab governments to guarantee and promote the cohesion and loyalty of the regime\u2019s elites. However, after\u00a02011\u00a0the situation was worse\u00a0with respect to\u00a0both\u00a0the\u00a0economic and political\u00a0spheres.\u00a0Arab citizens were no more confident about their political systems and this ended their passiveness.
